Frequently Asked Questions
Common laundromat questions, answered by Greenwich Clean Time.
Is it okay to leave my laundry unattended at a laundromat?
It is generally not recommended to leave laundry unattended at a laundromat. Most laundromats — including ours — discourage the practice because unattended bags and machines are an easy target for theft, and items left in a finished washer or dryer can be removed by another customer who needs the machine.
If you must step out, keep the trip short, set a timer for a few minutes before your cycle ends, and avoid leaving valuables in pockets or bags. Notify the attendant so they can assist you and ensure your laundry is handled properly.
At Greenwich Clean Time, an attendant is on-site during operating hours (7:30 AM – 9 PM Mon-Sat), which adds a layer of supervision but does not replace personal responsibility for your belongings.
If you would rather not wait at all, our Pickup & Drop-off service handles the entire wash, dry, and fold cycle so your laundry is never left unattended in a public space.
How long does a wash cycle take?
A typical wash cycle takes 25 to 40 minutes, depending on the machine type, cycle selected, and load size.
- Standard top-load washers — usually finish a normal cycle in about 25 to 30 minutes.
- High-efficiency front-load washers — generally 25 to 35 minutes, because they use less water and rely on a longer tumble time to clean effectively.
At Greenwich Clean Time, the exact runtime is displayed on each machine when you select your cycle.
How long does a drying cycle take?
A typical drying cycle takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the load size, fabric type, and dryer heat setting.
- Lighter loads of cotton T-shirts and synthetics — 30 to 40 minutes.
- Mixed loads of everyday clothing — 40 to 50 minutes.
- Heavy items such as towels, jeans, sweatshirts, or bedding — 60 to 75 minutes, sometimes longer if the load is dense or fully saturated.
Commercial high-speed dryers are faster than home dryers because they tumble at a higher heat and airflow. To shorten drying time, split heavy items into smaller loads, avoid overfilling the drum, and clean the lint screen before each use.
